Maine woman, 87, fights off then feeds hungry burglar

The gist:

  • An 87-year-old woman, Marjorie Perkins, fought back against an intruder who broke into her home in Brunswick, Maine.
  • The intruder, a 17-year-old boy, punched her in the face and forehead and kept knocking her against the wall.
  • Ms. Perkins fought back with a lawn chair, and the two had a “chair fight” for quite a while.
  • Eventually, the boy got tired and headed for the kitchen.
  • Ms. Perkins told him to get out, but he said he was “awfully hungry.”
  • She gave him some food, but he only ate one cracker.
  • While he was eating, she called 911.
  • The police arrived and arrested the boy.
  • It turned out that the boy had mowed Ms. Perkins’ lawn in the past.
  • Ms. Perkins has received a lot of support from her community since the incident.
  • She is surprised that her story has been so widely shared, but she is glad that it has brought some hope and positivity to people.

How does this relate to me?

I hate crackers.
