Has anyone ever used this or witnessed a video of it being used? I was always curious about it when traveling around the Tor network (dark web). It’s an odd kind of place, like the internet with layers. It can have some amazing content and some of the sickest as well.
What is it?
A deep fake is a type of synthetic media in which a person in an existing image or video is replaced with someone else’s likeness. This can be done using artificial intelligence to manipulate the image or video in a way that makes it look like the person in the original media is actually the person in the new media.
Deepfakes can be used for a variety of purposes, both good and bad. For example, they can be used to create realistic and convincing videos of politicians saying or doing things they never actually said or did. This could be used to damage someone’s reputation or to spread misinformation.
Deepfakes can also be used for more positive purposes, such as creating educational content or entertainment. For example, a deepfake could be used to create a video of a historical figure giving a speech or to create a new movie starring a deceased actor.
The potential for deepfakes to be used for malicious purposes is a serious concern. However, there are also several ways to detect deepfakes, and the technology is constantly evolving. As deepfakes become more sophisticated, it is important to be aware of the risks and to be critical of the information we see online.
You can find it online in quite a few places now, it used to be in Tor, and probably still is. I was just curious if anyone ever used it and what they thought of it. When I encountered deep fake it was early days.
Thank you random brain for that one.
One response to “Deep fake”
They’re far more prevalent these days because it’s easy for someone with little knowledge to make one now. Deepfakes are used more often for jokes but even jokes can fool some of the less mentally acrobatic among us. People can usually tell a deepfake from a real video, but we will come to a point where that’s no longer true eventually.
